밤에 손님이 찾아온 적이 있었다.

All of the sudden, there was a guest at night.

수요일 밤 12시마다 3주간 관리비 얘기를 하며 문을 열라고 했었다.

This stranger was knocking on the door, talking about 'facility check' every Wednesday, at midnight.

그런데 내 방은 관리비가 없었다.

But I never had such a schedule. 

좀 무섭기도 하고 주인할아버지도 신고하라고 하셔서 경찰에 신고해두었다.

The visiting was freaking me out so I called the police to leave a record of it.

그래도 불안해서 CCTV를 달게 되었다.

Still felt anxious about it, I installed a private security camera in front of my door.

생각보다 CCTV를 매일 확인하는 것은 무척 지루했다.

Checking the camera's recordings, it was more boring than I thought.

나는 무언가 될 수 있을까?

Is it possible to be something?

나는 내가 참 안타깝기도 하고 답답하기도 했다.

The sudden feeling of sorriness flowed into me and passed.

어쩌면 내가 할 수 없는 일일지도 모른다는 생각이 들었다.

It might be impossible. For me.

그 뒤로 성실하게 매일같이 CCTV를 보았지만 아무것도 없었다. 

After then, I observed the recordings every day, every night, but there was nothing.

다시는 오지 않았다. 

He never came back.

이것은 무척 다행스러운 일이었으나 그럼에도 CCTV는 계속 설치해두었다.

I was fine but, still, the camera was there, watching things.  

혹시 뭐가 있나 계속 확인하며 지냈다. 

Also, I was there, kept checking for something.

아무일도 일어나지 않아 다행이었다. 

So glad that nothing happened.

오히려 심심한 서운함이 스쳐갔다.

So boring that I felt like I was waiting for 'nothing' to change into 'something'

멍하게 화면을 들여다보고 있노라면

Watching through the monitor for a long time, 

오지않는 심상치 않은 사내에 대한 두려움은 점점 사그라들고 새로운 밤의 손님들에게 신경을 곤두세우게 되었다.

Also, it seemed like this red light from the security camera was attracting my new guests.

희한하게 생긴 손님들도 많았지만 당췌 벌레인지 먼지인지 알수없는 점 덩어리들이 휘젓고 다니기도 하였다.

These guests looked odd, but most of them, I couldn't tell whether they were just dust or guests.

여자 혼자 살던터라 함부로 CCTV를 떼어내기는 불안했지만

Because I was living alone, I didn't get rid of the camera for safety,

하도 아무일이 없다보니 밤의 손님들을 화면으로 구경하는 것이 신나는 일이 되어갔다.

Nothing happened, which was the thing I expected. 
But after, because nothing happened, I started to expect something else.

상당히 스펙타클한 방문도 있었다.

There was a spectacular visit.

꽤 긴 시간동안 다리를 이렇게 움직이며 있었다.

It was moving its leg like this.. for a long time.

뭔가 아슬아슬해보이는 장면도 있었다.

Some scene seemed adventurous.

나는 거미줄을 스친것 같은 모기같은 것의 상태가 궁금했다.

I was wondering what happened to that mosquito-like thing.

화면 바깥에서 일어나는 일은 알 수가 없었고, 사실 실제로 보고싶진 않았다.

Happening outside of the camera angle, it was unreachable, yet I didn't want to know about it.

매일 수십개, 며칠 방치하면 수백개의 클립들이 컴퓨터에 쌓여갔다.

Every day, tens or for a few days thousands of recording clips were stacking up to a computer.

손에 꼽을 몇개의 화면을 빼고는 아무일 없는 상황들이었다.

Except for only a few clips, rest of them were about ordinary day.

하지만 맨 처음 낯선 방문으로 인해 나는 관성이 붙어 지루하게 일상적인 화면을 더듬고 무엇인가를 계속 찾아보려 애썼다. 

Started from a frightening experience, I was trying to find anything extraordinary from ordinary footage.

심지어 무엇인가를 찾을것이며 찾아야한다는 이상한 바람도 생겼던것 같다.

I think I wished for that.

화면을 보는 지루한 시간들동안 잡다한 상념이 수없이 지나갔다. 

During a boring time of observation, so many things passed through my mind.

매일 1시간정도 CCTV를 보며 상념에 빠지는 희한한 일상의 작은 습관이 생겼다.

At that time, I spent about an hour for this every day.

매우 중요하지만 막연한 이 습관은 1년정도 지속되었다.

It was an issue for me but at the same time there was nothing left in real life.

매일 이렇게 해가 졌다.

Every day passed the same.
